Fuel Your Body Before And After A Skate Workout

June 28, 2023 by Writers Leave a Comment

Roller skating is certainly a full-body workout! It’s essential to fuel your body properly before a workout, and skating is no exception. Proper nutrition before and after a skate workout is crucial for optimal performance and recovery so we put together a guide on how you can do it properly!

Here’s a guide to fuel your body effectively before and after roller skating:

Before a skate workout, you should:

1. Eat carbohydrates: Prioritize consuming complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. These provide sustained energy for your workout. Examples could include oatmeal, brown rice, whole-grain bread, or a piece of fruit.

2. Include protein: Include a moderate amount of protein to support muscle repair and growth. Opt for sources like lean meats, fish, eggs, tofu, or Greek yogurt.

3. Get your hydration: Drink plenty of water to ensure you’re properly hydrated. Aim for at least 16 ounces (500 ml) of water 1-2 hours before your workout.

Examples of pre-skate snacks and meals you could indulge in:

– Whole grain toast with peanut butter and sliced banana

– Greek yogurt with berries and a sprinkle of granola

– Grilled chicken breast with steamed vegetables and quinoa

During the skate workout, you should:

It’s important to stay hydrated during your skate workout. Keep a water bottle handy and take regular sips between exercises or during breaks.

After a skate workout, you should:

1. Eat carbohydrates: Replace glycogen stores by consuming easily digestible carbohydrates. Choose options like fruits, whole grains, or sports drinks.

2. Include protein: Aid your muscle recovery and repair by consuming a combination of protein and carbohydrates within 30-60 minutes after your workout. Good sources include lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy products, or plant-based alternatives like legumes and quinoa.

3. Take in electrolytes: If you’ve been sweating profusely during your workout, consider replenishing electrolytes with a sports drink or coconut water.

4. Get your hydration: Continue drinking water to rehydrate your body.

Examples of post-skate snacks and meals you could indulge in:

– Grilled chicken or tofu stir-fry with brown rice and mixed vegetables

– Salmon or lentil salad with leafy greens and a variety of colorful vegetables

– Smoothie made with milk or a plant-based alternative, a scoop of protein powder, fruits, and spinach

Remember, listening to your body’s needs and adjusting your nutritional intake accordingly is essential. Should you need help, we recommend consulting with a registered dietitian who can provide personalized advice based on your specific goals and requirements.

We can’t wait to see you fueled up on the rink with us soon at Rainbow Rink!

Tricks To Nail This Summer

June 20, 2023 by Writers Leave a Comment

Roller skating is the most fun and exciting activity in our option! It is especially to do during the summer because it allows you to be outdoors while the weather is nice, but you can also escape to your favorite local roller skating rink like Rainbow Rink when the weather is too hot or it’s raining! Learning new roller skating tricks can take your skills to the next level. You can learn some of these tricks in just a matter of weeks, so there’s plenty of time to perfect them over the summer!

Here are some of our favorite roller skating tricks that you can aim to nail this summer:

1. Forward and backward crossovers

You can simply practice crossing one foot in front of the other while rolling forward and backward. This trick adds style and fluidity to your skating. It’s a great trick for beginners and advanced skaters to know.

2. T-stop

Master the T-stop to slow down and come to a controlled stop. Drag one-foot perpendicular to the other, forming a T-shape on the ground.

3. Jumps and hops

Work on your jumping skills by practicing small hops and gradually progressing to higher jumps. You can also practice jumping over obstacles like cones or small hurdles.

4. Spin or 360-degree turn

Practice spinning in place or while moving to add some flair to your skating. Start with slight turns and gradually work your way up to a full 360-degree spin.

5. One-foot glides

Develop your balance and control by gliding on one foot. Lift one foot off the ground and extend it forward, maintaining your balance on the other foot.

6. Slalom

Set up a series of cones or markers and practice weaving in and out of them. This trick improves your agility and control while skating.

7. Grinds and slides

Once you’re comfortable with basic tricks, you can try learning grinds and slides. These tricks involve sliding or grinding on obstacles such as rails or curbs. Ensure you have the proper protective gear and seek out appropriate skate parks or designated areas for these tricks.

Remember always to prioritize safety while attempting new tricks. Wear protective gear such as a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards. It’s also important to practice in a safe and suitable environment, and seek guidance from experienced skaters or take lessons if needed. Be sure to check out our schedule at Rainbow Rink and come skate with us! Enjoy your summer of roller skating and have fun nailing those tricks!

Throw The Best Birthday Party This Summer

May 31, 2023 by Writers Leave a Comment

Planning a birthday party can often be a stressful experience, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Why not throw a party that is both low-stress for you hosting and lots of fun for everyone this summer? Keep reading as we guide you through some best practices to ensure a memorable and enjoyable celebration.

1. Have a plan!

The key to hosting a successful party is to start with a clear plan. Determine the date, time, and location of the party well in advance. Hosting the party at a roller skating rink, like Rainbow Rink, is an excellent choice as it provides a fun environment, without the need for extensive setup and clean-up at home.

2. Book at Rainbow Rink!

Choose a reputable roller skating rink, such as Rainbow Rink, to host your party. Our party packages include skate rentals, reserved seating areas, and even party hosts to help manage the event. By booking at Rainbow Rink, you can ensure a well-organized and stress-free experience!

3. Invite all your kid’s friends!

Once you have the party details finalized, it’s time to send out invitations. You can opt for digital invitations to save time and get the invitations out more efficiently. Online platforms like Evite or Paperless Post offer a variety of customizable birthday templates. Be sure to include important details such as the date, time, location, and any special instructions like bringing socks for skating. Also, you’ll want to encourage RSVPs to help with your planning in the meantime!

4. Plan the party activities!

Roller skating itself is a fun activity that provides entertainment for the entire duration of the party. However, you can add extra elements to make it even more enjoyable. Consider organizing a “best costume on skates” contest or include our other attractions at Rainbow Rink. These kinds of activities will keep the kids engaged and create memorable moments.

5. Capture all the memories made throughout the party!

Designate someone to take photos and capture the best moments of the party. These photos can be shared with the guests later or included in thank-you notes. Consider setting up a photo area with props for some extra fun and memorable snapshots.

6. It’s finally time to enjoy the party and just have fun!

The most crucial aspect of throwing a low-stress and high-fun party is for the host to relax and enjoy the celebration alongside the guests. Remember that the party’s purpose is to celebrate and have a great time. Allow yourself to let loose and participate in the activities, creating lasting memories for both you and the birthday child!

Throwing a birthday party doesn’t have to be an overwhelming experience. By following these best practices and opting for a roller skating party at a trusted venue like Rainbow Rink, you can ensure a low-stress, high-fun celebration for everyone involved. We hope to see you out on the rink celebrating with us soon!

Roller Party Themes for the Teen in Your Life

July 25, 2019 by Writers Leave a Comment

The best things about roller skating birthday parties is that they are fun for people of all ages and they never go out of style. However, there are definitely some things you can switch up to make a roller party for your teen really cool. The best way to do this? A game-changing theme. Here are our suggestions:

Glow in the Dark

Roller skating rinks are the perfect place to have glow in the dark parties. Have your teen and their friends dress in white or neon colors and hand out glow sticks as party favors to make for an extra “lit” party! At Rainbow Roller Rink, we have black lights that will cause all the colors to pop when the lights go out, making for a really cool, glow in the dark setting.

Rock N’ Roll

One of our personal favorite themes is good ol’ rock n’ roll. Get your party guests to wear their favorite rock band t-shirts and ripped jeans, and maybe even request your favorite rock songs to the deejay booth. Here’s a Spotify playlist with some great picks. We can’t imagine anything more fun than celebrating your birthday by dressing up like your favorite band member and roller skating with your friends to your favorite ACDC song.

90s Kids

This theme is super fun and easy because a lot of 90s fads have made a return in popular culture and style recently. Between scrunchies, denim, and crop tops that have been in stores the past few years, it should be relatively simple for your guests to dress up like characters from Full House or Saved By the Bell in order to make this theme super cute.
